Balancing the need for increased food production with environmental preservation is crucial for feeding the growing population while safeguarding natural resources and ecosystems. Agriculture faces significant challenges from pests, diseases, and weeds, which result in substantial crop losses. While effective in the short term, the widespread use of agrochemicals poses long-term risks to soil health, ecosystem stability, and human health due to residue accumulation and environmental contamination. In light of these challenges, the integration of nanotechnology into agriculture has emerged as a beacon of hope, offering innovative solutions to revolutionize agriculture and ensure sustainable crop production. The application of chitosan nanoparticles (NPs) across different stages of crop growth and in various crops highlights their potential to revolutionize agricultural practices. Their ability to enhance plant growth, improve nutrient uptake efficiency, mitigate stress factors, and boost disease resistance underscores their role as a sustainable and effective tool in modern agriculture. However, further research and careful consideration of application methods (i.e., foliar or soil application), environmental impacts, and regulatory frameworks are necessary to fully harness the benefits of chitosan NPs in enhancing crop yields while ensuring agricultural sustainability.
