Nutritional Approaches to Preventing Diabetic Neuropathy: Guidelines and Strategies
摘要
A frequent consequence of diabetes is diabetic neuropathy, which is characterised by nerve damage brought on by persistently elevated blood sugar levels. Because certain dietary choices can help decrease inflammation, enhance glycaemic control, and promote nerve function, nutrition is crucial in the prevention and management of this disorder. The nutritional recommendations in this chapter are supported by research and are intended to lower the incidence and severity of diabetic neuropathy. An anti-inflammatory, well-balanced diet that includes entire foods including veggies, fruits, grains, healthy fats, and meat is advised. To sustain neuronal function and fight oxidative stress, special attention is paid to minerals including antioxidants, magnesium, vitamins B12 and D, and omega-3 fatty acids. The significance of managing blood sugar levels through portion management, regular meal scheduling, and low-glycaemic meals is also emphasised in this chapter. Diabetes patients can improve their overall metabolic health, lower their risk of neuropathy, and increase their quality of life by following these dietary recommendations.
