Process Parameters Optimization During Electrical Discharge Machining of Inconel 718
摘要
The present study encompasses experimental investigation of the electrical discharge machining (EDM) drilling of Inconel 718 using a copper electrode. The experiments were conducted on a die-sinking EDM machine with kerosene-based as a dielectric fluid, with main parameters viz. Pulse on time (Ton), Pulse off time (Toff) and Peak current (IP). Process performances were evaluated in terms of material removal rate (MRR), tool wear rate (TWR) and surface roughness (Ra) using response surface methodology (RSM). Results of the experiments reveal that peak current significantly effects the MRR, whereas Ton and Toff have their influence on the TWR and Ra. The best parameters for maximum MRR and minimum TWR/Ra are IP = 9 A, Ton = 66 µs and Toff = 37 µs, respectively.
