Cultural Attributes of Sinographic Scripts
摘要
Writing is a product of human societal development at a certain stage and a significant achievement of human civilization. Simultaneously, as an important cultural phenomenon in human history, it serves as a crucial vehicle for the inheritance, development, and dissemination of culture, and as a cohesive force for a people’s cultural identity, constituting an integral component of its traditional culture. For a considerable time, discussions of writing have often focused solely on its role as an auxiliary communication tool, neglecting its cultural attributes, which has hindered a thorough and comprehensive understanding of writing. Sinographic scripts represent a significant cultural achievement of diverse populations throughout history, and an invaluable heritage of their traditional cultures. Their formation and evolution profoundly reflect the close cultural exchanges among various populations throughout history, and their cultural attributes warrant rigorous scholarly investigation.
