Arbitration of Parameters and Models of the Magnetoactive Layer of the Southern Ocean Lithosphere

The study compared the age of the lithosphere obtained from deep-sea drilling wells, where the basalt bottom was reached, based on reliably identified linear magnetic anomalies, and models of the magnetically active layer of the lithosphere for the Southern Ocean lithosphere. An attempt was made to quantitatively estimate the parameters of the inversion magnetically active layer and compare them with models for the Southern, Indian, and World Oceans. This confirmed that the mean geometric values of natural residual magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, the Königsberger factor, and the arithmetic mean value of the Curie temperature for samples from South Ocean boreholes are generally close to those in the World Ocean. All of the above indicates that the models of the magnetically active layer of the Southern Ocean lithosphere are well-constructed and relatively reliable. The studies conducted refine our knowledge of the region under investigation.
