Experiments on the Thermal Consolidation of Saturated Soils

  • Bing Bai

摘要

The thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of porous materials, such as soils and sandstones, subjected to cyclic heating/cooling has garnered increasing interest for explaining phenomena like heating history, thermal loading paths, microstructural characteristics, reversibility of thermal consolidation, and the effects of natural or artificial temperature fluctuations. This chapter experimentally discusses the consolidation of saturated soils under repeated heating-cooling cycles, employing a temperature-controlled triaxial apparatus. The focus of the research is on the influence of confining pressure, water content, and the magnitude and cyclic number of thermal loading on consolidation deformation.
