European Integration: The Case of Electronic Communications

  • Peter Eberl,

摘要

The evolution of the electronic communications sector in Europe highlights a dynamic landscape influenced by technological advancements, regulatory frameworks, and geopolitical tensions. European Union (EU) regulations have historically promoted competition, consumer rights, and market integrations, addressing challenges like international roaming and the open internet. Despite progress, Europe’s telecom market remains fragmented compared to regions like the US. Recent initiatives, including the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC) and the Digital Decade strategy are trying to reverse this situation. However, challenges persist, particularly in balancing national regulatory autonomy with EU-wide goals.
