Sensory Organ Disorders and Associated Disabilities
摘要
The sense organs provide an input and response to the environment by sensing the external stimuli and sending the information to the brain. This chapter examines sensory organ abnormalities and sensory organ disabilities. It analyses the consequence of being deficient in vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch in communication, learning, and daily activities. The chapter explores the cause and the effect of sensory disability, as well as the importance of timely detection and management. In this chapter, it is also described that people who have a disorder of the sense organs, like visual impairment, hearing problems, and auditory processing disorders, generally have social difficulties such as communication barriers, lack of adequate information and mobility, social isolation, and lack of involvement in the community life of a person and the family.
