Abiotic Stress and Physiological Changes in Flowers Can Mediate the Pollinator Behavior

Unfavorable weather during flowering puts pollinator-plant interactions at risk and drastically lowers agricultural output. Flower metabolism serves as the foundation for these traits. Two frequent stresses that impact plant growth and development are drought and rising temperatures. Although plants must use their inadequate resources to generate features of the flower and attract pollinators, the reproductive stage is mainly prone to stress. Research indicates that abiotic stressors alter the physiological and floral physiology of Impatiens glandulifera, cross-pollinated by bee species, during the flowering season. Higher temperatures shortened the life span of flowers, whereas stress from dry circumstances can diminish bloom production by up to 90%. Higher temperatures led to lower content of nectar and pollen protein, indicating that both stresses influenced floral characteristics. Flowering may be negatively impacted even if plants use physiological resistance techniques in response to drought pressure and elevated temperatures. Pollinator behavior is mediated by all these effects.
