Enhancement of Crop Productivity Through Bee Pollination in Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.)
摘要
Pomegranate, Punica granatum, is valued for its juice-containing arils and is consumed as fresh fruit. The quality and quantity parameters of fruit in cross-pollinated crops depend on honeybees due to its body modification for pollen collection and flower fidelity behavior. Pomegranate is self-pollinated; however, it is cross-pollinated by insects, mainly honeybees. The crop yields due to various pollinators’ activity in pomegranate field would increase 38.38%. This chapter will discuss the aspects of pomegranate production, including flower biology, pollination, pollinator diversity, and yield enhancement with bee pollination.
