Blood Iron and Iron Deficiencies
摘要
In this chapter, we will discuss and interpret the results of the iron studies panel—a set of blood tests that evaluate how the body absorbs, transports, stores, recycles, and utilises iron. The key tests include serum iron, ferritin, transferrin, transferrin saturation, and total iron-binding capacity (TIBC). Together, these results guide the diagnosis of iron deficiency anaemia, iron overload disorders such as hereditary haemochromatosis, and other abnormalities of iron metabolism.
