This chapter explores the main types of blood lipids measured in standard blood tests, including cholesterol, triglycerides, and fatty acids, and their impact on health. Because fats do not dissolve easily in blood, they are transported as lipoproteins—complex particles made of lipids and specialised proteins called apolipoproteins.
