Influence of Aging Treatment on 00Cr40Ni55Al3Ti Non-magnetic Alloy Under High Frequency Dry Friction

This study investigates the effect of aging treatment on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and high-frequency dry friction behavior of 00Cr40Ni55Al3Ti non-magnetic alloy. Specimens were solution-treated at 1200 °C for 1 h (water-quenched) followed by aging at 500, 600, or 700 °C for 2 h. Results show that aging temperature significantly influences α-Cr phase precipitation: negligible precipitation at 500 °C, pronounced grain boundary precipitation at 600 °C, and increased quantity/size of precipitates at 700 °C due to Ostwald ripening. Mechanical properties peak at 600 °C owing to precipitation hardening, but decline at 700 °C due to coarsened second phase α-Cr. Dry friction tests reveal that the 600 °C-aged alloy exhibits the lowest weight loss (0.0341%) and friction coefficient (0.754) with minimal wear scar width (2.43 mm), indicating optimal wear resistance. Adhesive wear dominates, with an inverse correlation between hardness and friction coefficient. These findings provide insights for optimizing the alloy’s performance in high-stakes applications.
