Generative AI in Initial STEM Teacher Education: A Transformative and Situated AI Literacy
摘要
This chapter explores the use of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) in STEM education through a practical experience carried out with pre-service teachers. Bringing genAI into teacher education programs is framed as a necessary step to meet the demands and challenges of twenty-first-century education. The experience emphasized the diverse and interconnected roles of pre-service teachers as learners, designers, and reflective practitioners. The pedagogical design was conceived using immersive learning strategies and reflective practices, offering pre-service teachers’ opportunities to develop and grow in digital literacy, critical thinking, and the ability to combine pedagogical and content knowledge mediated by genAI. The intervention draws attention to dialogues between pre-service teachers and genAI, the Big Ideas of Science linked to STEM content knowledge, and the curricular model grounded in genAI-TPACK. The chapter seeks to share an innovative practice to illustrate teacher preparation by integrating technological and pedagogical knowledge in a practice-oriented genAI model.
