Robotic surgical platforms have significantly advanced the field of minimally invasive surgery by improving visualization, dexterity, precision, and ergonomics for surgeons. Modern systems incorporate three-dimensional high-definition imaging, articulated instruments with enhanced degrees of freedom, motion scaling, and tremor filtration to facilitate complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties. This chapter provides an overview of the fundamental components and working principles of robotic surgical systems, including the surgeon console, patient cart, vision system, and robotic instruments, with the da Vinci Xi platform discussed as a representative example. In addition, the chapter highlights simulation-based training, dual-console teaching, clinical applications, advantages, limitations, and future perspectives of robotic-assisted surgery in contemporary surgical practice.
