Autoclave
摘要
Autoclaves are essential sterilization devices widely used in healthcare and laboratory settings to eliminate all forms of microbial life, including bacterial spores, through the combined action of high-pressure saturated steam and elevated temperature. This chapter provides an overview of the principles, operation, installation, sterilization cycles, indicators, load types, safety precautions, maintenance, and troubleshooting of steam autoclaves. Different classes of autoclaves, sterilization parameters, and monitoring methods using chemical and biological indicators are discussed, along with practical guidance on handling various materials and ensuring effective sterilization. Emphasis is placed on proper operation, preventive maintenance, and adherence to safety protocols to optimize sterilization efficiency and reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
