Pediatric Surgery Laparoscopic Equipment

 Laparoscopy in Pediatric patients is emerging and its use has been increased in the past decade. Because of the less working space in children it was not attempted initially. With miniaturization of the endoscopic instruments; thoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgeries are being done in pediatric patients. Nowadays it is not only done in older children, but in neonates and also in premature babies. In neonates and infants laparoscopy gives excellent results with extremely good cosmetic outcomes which is almost scarless abdomen. Because of the advanced technology with 3D-4K systems, 3mm telescopes and 2 mm instruments, its becoming feasible to perform laparoscopic surgeries even in premature babies. But the instruments need to be handled gently and tissue manipulation should be done with utmost care. In this chapter we will discuss the instruments which are specifically used in pediatric laparoscopic surgery.
