Tissue approximation in laparoscopic surgery is a critical skill that encompasses suturing, knotting, clipping, and loop application to achieve secure wound closure and haemostasis. Unlike open surgery, laparoscopic techniques require advanced hand–eye coordination, specialized instruments, and adaptation to limited tactile feedback, contributing to a steep learning curve. Key instruments include laparoscopic needle holders, knot pushers, loop applicators, clip applicators, and automated suturing devices such as the Endo Stitch. Each instrument is designed to enhance precision, efficiency, and ergonomics while addressing the challenges of intracorporeal and extracorporeal suturing. These tools enable surgeons to perform complex tissue approximation safely within confined operative fields. Despite technological advancements, mastery of fundamental suturing techniques remains essential. Proper understanding of instrument design, applications, troubleshooting, and maintenance is vital to optimize surgical outcomes, reduce complications, and improve procedural efficiency in minimally invasive surgery.
