As surgeons are getting familiar with laparoscopic and robotic procedures, the practical knowledge on electrical and electronic components of laparoscopic setup becomes indispensable. Often while operating, the surgeon relies on technicians whenever display issues occur, and if not corrected, the surgical team is left paralysed. A good working knowledge allows the operating surgeon to do the basic troubleshooting, especially when experienced technical personnel are not available. As a primer to subsequent chapters, this section focuses on the basics of various cables used in laparoscopic armamentarium.
