Key Enablers in Flight Crew Resilient Behavior Management: A Systematic Analysis from a Complex Network Perspective

In light of the “black swan” nature of modern aviation accidents—characterized by low probability but catastrophic consequences—traditional risk management frameworks struggle to address multi-source, complex risks inherent in aviation systems. This study investigates Flight Crew Resilient Behavior (FCRB), defined as the crew’s capacity to adaptively respond to emergencies by transcending Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while ensuring flight safety. Leveraging a hybrid methodology integrating the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique and complex network analysis, this research constructs a causal network of 22 FCRB-influencing factors across individual, cockpit, and organizational domains. Key findings reveal that risk awareness (X1) and psychological quality (X2) emerge as pivotal causal factors, exhibiting the highest centrality (1.31 and 0.98, respectively) and direct influence (node degrees of 18 and 14) within the network. These factors not only dominate systemic interactions but also demonstrate the shortest path lengths to FCRB outcomes, underscoring their criticality in fostering crew resilience. By quantifying interdependencies among technical, individual, and organizational variables, this study advances a data-driven framework for optimizing FCRB management, offering actionable insights to enhance aviation safety.
