Deltoid Resection

Complete resection of a deltoid sarcoma is rarely performed and is thought to compromise shoulder abduction. Loss of the deltoid muscle in isolation with normal rotator cuff results in fairly normal shoulder function in daily activity, including overhead movement. However, abduction strength is weaker for strenuous activity. In general, muscle transfer to enhance shoulder abduction is rarely performed following this procedure.
