Production of Biodiesels and Performance Evaluation in Agricultural Diesel Engine

This paper deals with production of popular biodiesel from Karanja seed oil and waste cooking oil. Karanja biodiesel has been prepared by using two-step acid esterification and transesterification process. Waste cooking oil has been prepared by using direct transesterification process. The prepared biodiesel mixed via taking same volume proportions of Karanja biodiesel and waste cooking biodiesel and used in an agricultural diesel engine for performance and emission analysis. Karanja waste cooking mixed biodiesel (KWMB) is blended with normal diesel to form KWMB20 (20% mixed biodiesel and 80% diesel) and KWMB40 (40% mixed biodiesel and 60% diesel). Parameters such as brake thermal efficiency, CO, HC emission, and cylinder pressure with crank angle are studied and smooth running of the engine ensured with blended test fuels KWMB20 and KWMB40.
