An Investigation of the Use of LPG in the Presence of EGR as Fuel on Engine Performance, Combustion and Emission in Dual-Fuel Mode of a CRDi Diesel Engine

The aim of this study is to examine the influence of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) on the engine performance, combustion, and emissions characteristics. The investigations are carried out on a common rail direct injection (CRDi) engine in dual-fuel mode. The engine is run for the load range of 0, 10, and 30 Nm, which are the Highest load, medium load, and no-load conditions during engine operation while maintaining a constant speed of 2000 rpm. Further, dual-fuel tests are conducted without and with the presence of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), with a substitution rate of 5%, which mixes with LPG and air during the operation. In this work, the factors investigated are in-cylinder pressure, peak cylinder pressure, heat release rate (HRR), and ignition delay. A maximum peak cylinder pressure (PCP) of 94.38 bar is achieved with diesel in the presence of 5% LPG at the heaviest load.
