Flow Modelling Using Conveyance Estimation System: A Case Study of Musi River
摘要
Floods are disasters caused by nature that happen when water overflows on land which is dry. During floods, Musi River may overflow and the water to spread into nearby low areas such as industrial and agricultural lands along with bridges, roads, and buildings. To address this issue flood analysis plays a major role in the flood risk assessment and management practices. In this study we have taken the geometry of Musi River to analyze the flow characteristics by using Conveyance Estimation System (CES) Software. CES can help in predicting the changes, physical characteristics of river like channel geometry, and vegetation on the flow behavior. This software uses historical data of river like roughness values, cross-section and discharge data for the past years of the area. Using this data, Conveyance Estimation System software provides distribution plots such as conveyance, flow, average velocity, manning’s n, Froude number along with the depth-averaged velocity and boundary shear stress at different depths of 5, 10, and 15 m. With this distribution plots we can identify the areas which are severely affected by the floods and take necessary precautions to avoid the situation.
