Numerical Simulation Study on Water Control in Horizontal Wells for Offshore Strong Bottom-Water Reservoirs

An oilfield is an offshore reservoir with strong bottom water, which has the characteristics of strong formation homogeneity and active bottom water. Horizontal wells are the main types of oil wells in bottom water reservoirs at present. Horizontal well is a development technology to improve oil well production and oil field production efficiency by expanding the oil drainage area of the reservoir. It has many advantages that vertical well production does not have, and can effectively develop all kinds of reservoirs. However, there are also many problems with horizontal wells. The most common and difficult problem for horizontal wells to develop bottom water reservoirs is the problem of bottom water ridging. The problem of bottom water ridging seriously restricts the efficient development of bottom water reservoirs by horizontal wells, so the problem of bottom water ridging needs to be solved urgently. In order to remove or reduce water flooding, water shutoff is required for oil wells. Through numerical simulation research, this paper analyzes the effect of water control and plugging measures under different viscosity and permeability range, further improves the level of water control design of horizontal wells, improves the current situation that it is difficult to effectively control water breakthrough in horizontal wells, and provides technical support for achieving stable oil production and water control and improving final recovery.
