Dynamic Voltage Restorer Application for Power Quality Improvement Using an Improved Whale Optimization Algorithm

This research project seeks to improve power quality (PQ) for complex nonlinear loads to elevate the efficiency of the developed model by removing extreme total harmonic distortion (THD) and lowering neutral wire current. The proposal is to use optimization techniques to incorporate a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) into the system. In order to optimize the DVR, the suggested system has been tested using a gated recurrent unit, long short-term memory, and an optimization method. In this work, a new improved whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is employed to investigate the performance of DVR. The suggested optimization algorithm is compared and tested with the conventional WOA method in order to detect the existence of THD within the electrical system. The results generated by the suggested approach adhere to all established global THD standards. Moreover, the results comply with the requirements for abolishing current in the neutral wire and successfully manage minor fluctuations in DC voltage within the voltage-regulating current. The proposed WOA has been studied using accuracy and computational complexity performance indices, yielding effective results with 99% accuracy and computational complexity. The proposed method is applicable for reducing harmonics in a power dispersal architecture within both residential and commercial load contexts.
