The Qing Dynasty’s Perception of and Response to Chosŏn’s Revering the Zhou and Longing for the Ming
摘要
Given that the Chosŏn dynasty so openly and persistently upheld its commitment to Revering the Zhou and longing for the Ming over an extended period, was the Qing dynasty aware of these activities? What measures did it adopt in response? How did the Qing deal with Chosŏn’s posture of outward deference but inward disdain? And what results did its policies achieve? This chapter addresses these questions and, in doing so, further examines the distinctive features of the suzerain–vassal relationship between the Qing and Chosŏn.
