Sustainable Tourism in the Global South

This chapter examines sustainable tourism as a development strategy in the Global South. It highlights tourism’s role in economic growth, cultural preservation, and environmental conservation. The chapter discusses challenges such as limited resources and institutional constraints. Opportunities related to community-based tourism and biodiversity are explored. Capacity building and skill development are emphasized as key factors. The role of international cooperation and partnerships is examined. Case studies illustrate successful sustainable tourism models. The chapter concludes that context-specific approaches are essential for sustainable tourism in developing regions.
