ADHD Across the Lifespan: Developmental Changes and Challenges
摘要
ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that affects individuals across all stages of life. While traditionally associated with childhood, it is now widely recognized as a lifelong condition with varying manifestations and challenges in adolescence, adulthood, and older age. The evolving nature of ADHD means that symptoms such as inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity interact with different developmental transitions, shaping academic, occupational, and social experiences in distinct ways. In this chapter, we examine how ADHD presents at different life stages, considering the impact of neurological maturation, environmental influences, and coping mechanisms. We explore how early intervention, tailored treatment approaches, and adaptive strategies can help individuals navigate these transitions successfully. Additionally, the chapter highlights the importance of recognizing ADHD in adulthood and later life, addressing misconceptions that ADHD diminishes over time. By understanding the developmental trajectory of ADHD, we can better support individuals in maximizing their strengths, minimizing challenges, and improving long-term well-being.
