Sustainable Urban Development in Mulanthuruthy Panchayat
摘要
Sustainable urban development prioritizes long-term resilience, human well-being, and efficient resource use while minimizing environmental impact through the integration of green technologies and sustainable design principles. Mulanthuruthy, a town undergoing rapid modernization, presents an opportunity to implement such strategies, particularly in three key wards—Perumpilly, Padathukavu, and Moolekurish—where infrastructure improvements are essential. This study focuses on five major components: widening of the service road, construction of a public bus stop with integrated toilets, development of a sustainable park, renovation of the public health center, and implementation of an efficient waste management system. The road infrastructure improvements emphasize widening, enhanced drainage systems, durable walkways, and the integration of sustainable pavement materials such as plastic-modified asphalt to improve longevity and resilience. The public bus stop and toilets are designed for accessibility, water efficiency, and renewable energy use. The sustainable park incorporates water conservation techniques, solar-powered lighting, and waste reduction strategies to create an eco-friendly recreational space. The public health center renovation focuses on energy efficiency, improved accessibility, and effective biomedical waste management to enhance patient well-being and environmental sustainability. Additionally, a waste management system is proposed to enhance waste segregation, recycling, and composting to ensure efficient and sustainable waste disposal. Data collection, including demographic and traffic surveys, along with stakeholder consultations, helped assess community needs and guide sustainable solutions. By integrating innovative materials and environmentally responsible design principles, this study aims to enhance infrastructure while minimizing ecological impact, ultimately fostering a more resilient and inclusive urban future for Mulanthuruthy.
