Conjunction: The Logic of Text

The function of conjunction in discourse has been the subject of extensive study. There is a great deal of variation both in terminology and in the substance of different analysis. The orientations of discussion might also differ. Some are universalist in their orientation, aiming at the grammatical realizations in a number of languages. Others focus on conjunctive relations in particular languages. Many scholars, however, would agree that conjunction systems are concerned with resources for combining messages via relations such as addition, temporality, concession, comparison, etc.
