Enable Intelligent Vehicle to Avoid Crashes for View Blocked
摘要
Traffic crashes caused by blind spots occur occasionally. For example, at intersections, large vehicles in adjacent lanes can block a driver’s view, causing them to collide with suddenly appearing road users. At present, similar crashes have also occurred for intelligent vehicles on the road, in which the blind area is caused by the environmental barrier. First of all, the paper investigates crashes caused by vision blocking for the manual driving vehicle, then reconstructs and analyzes a typical case owing to the blind area for the automated driving vehicle. Finally, this paper compares the similarities and differences between the two kinds of scenarios, and discusses the main causes of the crash and the corresponding preventive measures. The results show that at current stage, automated vehicles currently struggle to address the perceived risks associated with visual obstructions. With the combination of single vehicle intelligence and vehicle-road communication, and through the interaction between the information assistance of intelligent roadside equipment and vehicle risk prediction, traffic crashes resulted by the blocking of vehicle vision can be effectively avoided.
