The Public Perception of Platoon Control of Connected and Automated Vehicles: A Perspective on Nighttime Driving Safety

Public perception and acceptance of connected and automated vehicle platooning control is vital, directly impacting technology promotion and application. Safety, efficiency, privacy, data security, and compliance with legal regulations are key concerns requiring thorough consideration to earn public trust. This study establishes a structural model to analyze influencing factors and categorizes acceptance into surface-level and deep-level dimensions, examining public views on connected and automated vehicle platooning control from a nighttime driving safety perspective. Findings indicate that economic development and diverse travel needs in China have made technology promotion and operational context crucial in public acceptance. This research aids transportation policymakers in making informed decisions and provides a basis for future studies, facilitating further advancement of intelligent transportation systems.
