The Role of Juvenile Hormone in Insect Ovarian Development
摘要
Juvenile hormone (JH)Juvenile hormone (JH) plays a crucial role in the regulation of insect reproduction. In female insects, JH regulates oogenesis by promoting the production and uptake of vitellogenin (Vg). This function has been confirmed since the beginning of JH research more than 80 years ago by transplantation of the corpus allatum, the JH-producing organ. However, it is only in the past two decades that the details of the molecular mechanisms of JH-dependent oogenesis regulation have become clear. In this chapter, we summarize the molecular mechanism of JH action in oogenesis, focusing on the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, which has been extensively studied using powerful genetic tools.
