In plants, pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) plays a vital role in growth, development, and stress response. It acts as a cofactor for many enzymes involved in amino acid metabolism, hormone production, and other key biochemical pathways. Beyond its metabolic function, pyridoxine serves as a strong antioxidant, directly neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and protecting plant cells from oxidative damage caused by environmental stresses like high light intensity. Adequate levels of pyridoxine are associated with increased photosynthetic efficiency, better root structure, and overall plant health. On the other hand, a deficiency of this vitamin often leads to stunted growth, reduced photosynthetic activity, and increased vulnerability to abiotic stresses. By combining its roles in enzyme function and antioxidant activity, pyridoxine supports both the fundamental metabolism and defense systems of plants, making it essential for maintaining plant productivity under normal and stressful conditions.
