This chapter addresses how design thinking can be taught within design studios. Starting from the four modes of SynDT outlined in the previous chapter, this chapter further develops a SynDT Instructional Map by consolidating the instructional methods outlined in the cases with empirical findings from international literature about emerging design studio pedagogies. This Instructional Map summarizes the instructional methods that can be used to nurture each mode of design thinking, providing design educators with practical guidance for action in their studios. The chapter also outlines methods for building studio cultures amenable for supporting design thinking, with suggestions about how design educators can use SynDT and the Instructional Map to formulate their design thinking pedagogy.
