A Need for Design Thinking
摘要
This book challenges researchers, educators, and students in higher design institutions to have deeper engagement with design thinking, or simply put, the designers’ unique way of problem-solving. It examines the theoretical development of design thinking, serving as a resource for higher design educators and postgraduate students in their research and teaching of design thinking. This chapter outlines the purpose of this book, explores the relationship between design and design thinking with respect to current developments in industry, technology, and higher education. It highlights how vocabularies of design thinking tend to lack pedagogical presence in higher design curriculums, even though it is highly evident in designers' practice. An introduction to each of the book chapters is provided, outlining how the book attempts to support design educators to nurture design thinking in their studios through exploring theory and showcasing 11 localized cases describing instructional methods implemented by design educators from a variety of design disciplines, including media design, graphic design, 3D design, and fashion design.
