From Simulation to Design Intelligence: Lessons, Reflections, and Pathways Ahead for Applied CFD in Architecture and Urbanism
摘要
This concluding chapter of Applied CFD: A Practical Guide for Architects and Planners summarizes the theoretical and practical journey of the book by showing how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) helps to bridge the gap between scientific accuracy and creative design. It examines how physics, numerical modelling, experimental verification, and software application are combined to show how CFD enables planners and architects to create environmentally intelligent designs. Lessons learned emphasise the importance of calibration, validation, and balanced fidelity in modelling, while underscoring CFD’s role as both a design exploration and communication tool. The chapter looks at the future of applied CFD by imagining how it will merge with digital twins, AI-assisted processes, and predictive modelling for climate-responsive design. It emphasizes the increasing convergence of data-driven design and environmental stewardship and promotes the democratization of simulation through open-source and cloud-based tools. In the end, CFD is presented as a transformative language rather than just a technical technique, one that allows science and design to work together to create cities that are healthier, more adaptable, and sustainable.
