Somatoform and psychosomatic disorders encompass a spectrum of conditions in which psychological factors play a prominent role in the onset, maintenance, or exaggeration of physical symptoms. This chapter reviews definitions, contemporary classification schemes, etiology and risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, and evidence-based medical and nursing management.
