Public and Private Systems of Care for Mental Health, Including Referral System
摘要
Bangladesh is a densely populated country with about 170 million, where the prevalence of mental disorders is 18.7%, with a treatment gap > 90%. Due to the pattern of disease burden and income category, the mental health system faces various challenges. The mental health system has four components, i.e., public services, private institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and donor agencies. The National Institute of Mental Health and Pabna Mental Hospital are the prominent public service providers. This chapter discusses the mental health system, focusing on public, private systems, NGOs, and the referral system in Bangladesh. Additionally, it highlights the enduring challenges and potential ways ahead for mental health services in the country.
