Design Requirements for Developing Sustainable Decorative Products from Ceramic Industry Waste

This study analyzes design requirements for developing decorative products using waste plaster molds from the ceramic industry as a step toward sustainable material innovation. To address the growing demand for eco-friendly architectural materials, the research draws on three sources: specifications of commercial decorative products such as wall panels, findings from relevant studies, and expert evaluations. Literature review emphasized sustainable and aesthetic outcomes in the Thai context, while a market survey identified key product features highlighted in existing products. These insights were synthesized and validated by experts in architecture, interior construction, and wood-based product design. The results identify five essential properties: strength, durability, adhesion, safety, and lightweight. Strength and durability ensure long-term performance, adhesion supports reliable installation, safety addresses health and fire considerations, and lightweight design facilitates handling and application. By integrating academic insights, market trends, and expert judgment, this study provides a framework to guide material formulation and product design while encouraging circular reuse of ceramic waste and reducing reliance on virgin resources.
