Third-generation biofuel feedstocks like algae have attracted researchers for their biofuel production potential and remarkable advantages (high productivity, less land use, low requirement of fresh water, wastewater treatment and mitigation of GHGs like carbon dioxide) over first and second-generation feedstocks used for bioenergy and biofuels production. This chapter will review the role of modelling in the optimization of process parameters, such as light, nutrients, pH, and others required for algae biomass growth and lipid synthesis. This work assists in the design and real-time optimization of algal open bioreactors through modelling.

摘要

Third-generation biofuel feedstocks like algae have attracted researchers for their biofuel production potential and remarkable advantages (high productivity, less land use, low requirement of fresh water, wastewater treatment and mitigation of GHGs like carbon dioxide) over first and second-generation feedstocks used for bioenergy and biofuels production. This chapter will review the role of modelling in the optimization of process parameters, such as light, nutrients, pH, and others required for algae biomass growth and lipid synthesis. This work assists in the design and real-time optimization of algal open bioreactors through modelling.
