IPv6 Transition Scenarios

This chapter systematically defines fundamental scenarios, such as IPv6 network to IPv4 Internet, IPv4 Internet to IPv6 network, IPv4 network to IPv6 Internet, IPv6 Internet to IPv4 network, and all combinations. This chapter extends these to advanced cases involving shared IPv4 addresses and double translation/encapsulation techniques. It outlines a technical framework comprising components like translators, domain name systems (DNS), and configuration protocols, which collectively discusses address space limitations and enables seamless connectivity. By categorizing scenarios and technologies, the chapter provides a structured approach for selecting stateless/stateful methods or hybrid solutions based on deployment needs.
