摘要

This chapter explores the evolution of IPv6 transition technologies, addressing the critical need to shift from IPv4 due to address exhaustion and incompatibility. Traditional approaches—dual-stack deployment, tunneling, and old version of translation—failed to achieve full IPv6 adoption within two decades, prompting a re-evaluation post-2008. The chapter highlights a paradigm shift toward new version of translation-centric solutions, enabling interoperability between IPv6-only and IPv4-only networks, supplemented by encapsulation techniques. It outlines the historical context, technological classifications, and standardization efforts underpinning modern transition strategies. By analyzing challenges in legacy methods and advancements in next-generation solutions, the chapter underscores the importance of efficient transition mechanisms for sustaining Internet growth.
