Stateless IPv6 Prefix Translation
摘要
This chapter examines Stateless IPv6 Prefix Translation (NPTv6) and Stateless Double IPv6 Prefix Translation (dNPTv6), addressing the role of prefix translation in IPv6 networks. While IPv6 was originally designed to eliminate NAT and restore end-to-end communication, the practical deployment needs some kind of translation mechanism. NPTv6 provides algorithm-based, bidirectional IPv6 address translation, preserving end-to-end transparency while enabling seamless network interoperation. Its extension, dNPTv6, introduces double translation for advanced use cases. By bridging the gap between IPv6’s architectural ideals and real-world requirements, these stateless solutions offer scalability and flexibility for evolving networks.
