Next-Generation Simulation Ecosystems Bridging Digital Twin and Omniverse Technologies

摘要

Engineering and construction projects often deal with many complicated issues and keep running into problems like disconnected work processes, difficulty in sharing information between different systems, and weak teamwork across various fields. Digital twin (DT) technology has become a big change in how these challenges are handled. It connects the real world with the digital world by allowing real-time tracking, smart predictions, and managing projects throughout their entire life. Even though DT started in the aerospace industry, it has quickly become popular in construction because of the need for more sustainable and people-focused building practices. In parallel, NVIDIA Omniverse has introduced an open platform based on Universal Scene Description (USD) for immersive, real-time collaboration and simulation. This chapter explores how DTs are classified across complexity, life cycle phases, and hierarchical perspectives and evaluates their applications in preconstruction, construction, and post-construction stages. It also looks at Omniverse as a system that can grow and support many users at the same time. This system brings in AI-powered simulations, real-time graphics, and teamwork features. The study shows that integrating advanced twins with simulation, visualization tools, and collaboration features can transform the construction sector into a more connected and predictive system. This approach improves efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, aligning with the principles of Industry 5.0, which emphasize human-machine collaboration. The results also reveal that combining DTs with Omniverse reduces inefficiencies and creates new opportunities for digital collaboration, immersive visualization, and smart infrastructure management.
