The book has proposed a civil liability regime specific for the shipbreaking sector based on the theory of rectificatory global justice. The regime is referred to as shipbreaking liability certificate or SLC. The proposed SLC is intended to set up a global system to provide compensation to workers if they are killed, injured, or suffered a work-related disease arising from shipbreaking-related activities. Alongside compensation, an indirect effect of the SLC would be to change current industry practice. The SLC scheme explained in Chap. 9 of the book may be applicable regionally or globally where the shipbreaking practices are used.
