The Research on Low Resistivity Oil and Gas Reservoirs of ZK and Surrounding Oilfields in Mangyshlak Basin

The ZK and surrounding oil fields in Kazakhstan are located on the edge of the South Mangyshlak Depression and belongs to the Zhetybai- Uzen terrace in terms of structure. It extends 200 km from northwest to southeast and is 40km wide. These oil fields are the large local structures, belonging to low amplitude extended anticline folds. A comprehensive study was conducted on the lithology, pore types, and cementation characteristics of the J reservoir in the ZK and surrounding oil fields of the Mangyshlak Basin using cast thin sections, scanning electron microscopy, core mercury injection experiments, well logging, and geological data. The low resistivity oil and gas reservoirs in this area are mainly affected by the following factors: fine reservoir lithology, mainly composed of fine sandstone and siltstone; Structures with high clay content and montmorillonite content accounting for over 80%, high mineralization of formation water, and relatively low amplitude. By analyzing the logging characteristics of more than 600 wells in the ZK and surrounding 5 oil fields studied, the logging response characteristics of low resistivity oil and gas reservoirs can be divided into the following 5 categories: Type I - semi elliptical, Type II - elliptical, Type III - crescent shaped, Type IV - gourd shaped, and Type V - semi conical. Due to the particularity of this research area, natural potential, gamma, acoustic, resistivity and other logging data were fully utilized to find the best possible way to improve the distinction between oil and water layers. At the same time, combined with gas logging, geochemical and other data, a qualitative identification standard and quantitative calculation method for low resistivity oil and gas reservoirs in the research area were established. All the logging data of wells were processed to obtain the vertical and planar distribution of the low resistivity oil and gas reservoir in these oilfields.
