This review paper explores the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative teaching practices, focusing on AI’s impact on teacher training and learning. The literature review examines the evolving educational landscape, where AI technologies are increasingly integrated to enhance teaching methodologies and improve learning outcomes. It contributes to the existing knowledge of AI’s transformative role in teacher education. By examining the trends and advancements in AI applications for teacher training and learning, this literature review provides insights into the benefits and challenges of integrating AI into educational settings. Key areas are identified where AI can empower educators and optimise learners’ personalised learning experiences. The methodological approach involves searching and analysing relevant academic papers, reports and studies on AI in education. By synthesising and critically evaluating the literature using a PRISMA diagram, this review presents a holistic view of AI’s impact on teacher training and learning in South Africa.
