The accreditation of degree and diploma programmes by professional and statutory bodies ensures that higher education institutions adhere to set standards and requirements. In South Africa, the South African Computing Accreditation Board (SACAB) was established under the control of the Institution of IT Professionals of South Africa (IITPSA). The aim of the SACAB is to accredit Computer Science, Information Systems and Information Technology (IT) degree and diploma programmes in South Africa. The establishment of a South African IT Diploma Advisory Board (SAITDAB) was proposed at the SACLA 2020 conference, which would function in association with the SACAB. A proposed process for drafting an IT Diploma and Advanced Diploma programme body of knowledge (BoK) was further recommended. An accreditation survey was conducted in 2023, indicating overwhelming support for the SACAB by respondents representing 14 national universities. The respondents indicated that their institutions would support staff members to serve on the SACAB and SAITDAB. The first task, in order to draft an IT Diploma and Advanced Diploma programme BoK, was to summarise the IT Diploma and Advanced Diploma programmes and course contents of the Comprehensive Universities (CU) and Universities of Technology (UoT) diploma programmes. The websites of Comprehensive Universities and Universities of Technology offering IT Diploma programmes have been analysed and summarised in order to establish a standardised BoK. The findings indicate diverse diploma programme offerings and the need for a standardised BoK.
